Dr. Nancy M. Young is an internationally renowned pediatric neurotologist, surgeon, and a leading authority in pediatric hearing loss and cochlear implantation. Dr. Young is the Lillian S. Wells Professor of Pediatric Otolaryngology at Northwestern University. She founded one of the world's leading and most comprehensive pediatric cochlear implant programs at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago, where she serves as the medical director of the CI program and Department of Audiololgy and is the Head, Section of Otology & Neurotology. As the current President of the American Otological Society (2025–2026), Dr. Young continues to shape national standards in cochlear implantation, including best practices for early identification, surgical intervention, and long-term management of children with hearing loss. She served as Executive Council Member-at-Large of the American Neurotology Society and was a founding member of the American Cochlear Implant Alliance (ACIA). Dr. Young is also a member of the editorial board of the American Journal of Otology & Neurotology. Dr. Young has published over 85 scientific articles and 16 book chapters, co-edited Pediatric Cochlear Implantation: Learning and the Brain (2nd ed.), and has presented many invited lectures worldwide. Her research and leadership work have significantly advanced the diagnosis and treatment of children with hearing loss and complex auditory disorders. Her NIH-funded research uses brain imaging and artificial intelligence to predict language and hearing outcomes after cochlear implantation, with the goal of personalizing therapy. She also lead a recently completed multicenter FDA clinical trial expanding pediatric indications for cochlear implantation. Her contributions have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Women in Otolaryngology Helen F. Krause, MD Trailblazer Award (2021), the Alfred E. Mann Foundation Award of Scientific Merit, and the Niparko Memorial Lectureship at CI2025. She is widely respected for her pioneering clinical work, leadership in advancing pediatric hearing health, and mentorship of the next generation of neurotologists and pediatric otolaryngologists.
