Professor Helen Cullington is a leading audiologist and clinical scientist at the University of Southampton Auditory Implant Service (USAIS), with over 30 years of experience in cochlear implant care across six centers worldwide. Her career combines clinical excellence with pioneering research in telemedicine, person-centered care, and bilateral cochlear implantation. A passionate advocate for empowering patients, Professor Cullington has led transformative projects that enable cochlear implant users to manage their hearing health remotely. Her work on remote care pathways, supported by major grants from the Health Foundation, has improved access and outcomes for thousands of patients across the UK. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Cochlear Implants International and past Chair of the British Cochlear Implant Group. Her research includes the BEARS (Both Ears) virtual reality training games for children with bilateral implants and studies on tinnitus outcomes post-implantation. Professor Cullington holds a PhD from the University of California, Irvine, and an MSc in Audiology from the University of Southampton. She continues to shape the future of auditory implant care through research, clinical leadership, and global collaboration.
